Al Jazeera World Cup 2010 Card

I just bought the Al Jazeera WC card for QAR 292. Slipped it in the card slot of my Humax box. Turned it on and "Updating information from smartcard" was displayed on my screen. Waited for about 25-30 minutes.

In the meanwhile I flipped channels to locate the channel numbers for JSC (Al Jazeera Sports Channels). After showing "Channel information is Scrambled" for a long while, the Germany vs Australia match came up on screen.

Much to my dismay and immense disappointment, none of the channels (+9, +10, World Cup) were broadcasting in English. Piece of crap!!!

Oh wait...the match is now over and some commentators at AJ studios have started their post-match analysis in English. If it is going to be so, man, this is rotten!

Does anyone know if "any" AJ channel has english running commentary for the WC matches?

I roll back quite a bit of my frustration!! The WC channel in the package broadcasts in French & English. In order to hear English, one would have to select the Arabic language option. I am enjoying the Ned vs Den match now. Boy, if only there was an option to turn off the vuvuzela! Miss the chants of the good old days!.

SOOOOOOOO frustrated. We bought the Al Jazeera smart card for a 6 month period specifically to watch the World Cup and after manually searching managed to get the England vs USA match on Sat but no joy whatsoever for Aus vs Ger last night, despite trying the various frequencies for Arabsat and Nilesat that everyone has been giving out. We listened for a while to the English commentary on JSC HD channel but then picked up the ITV1 stream via www.footyfire.com. Not a great picture but better than nothing...

Anyone any ideas what to do next???

I know it is completely illogical actually, but you will hear the English commentaries if you set your language to Arabic... it’s happened to me and a couple of friends.

As they say, expect the unexpected.

Well, I guess I should count my blessings then ;)

Yes, Chelsea...I did confirm language settings. Good tip though. The adverts in JSC World Cup are in English. Will see what is in store for tomorrow.

I know this may sound stupid and sorry if you've already tried - but is there a language button on your remote? I put up with weeks of arabic dubbing and commentary until I realised that if I just pressed "language" on my remote I could change some of the channels back to English!!
