English Premier League: How to watch?
Abu Dhabi has won the rights to show English Premier League matches live. Now you can get their decoder with satellite dish in all GCC countries except.... Yes except Qatar where QTEL Mozaic will show it. Problem is that Satellite broadcasts in HD for the games and QTEL is at best digital.
Is it possible to get the ADTV decoder and relevant sports channels here in Doha and get it installed here? Anyone done that yet?
Took the plunge with Mosaic also for QR35.
It's good enough and cheap enough.
Well, not sure how it works, but we've got 3 AD channels showing the premier league, they are just tuned into the TV directly. Maybe the apartment block has the package and just sends a feed to each apartment.
Had to call starlink to sort it out, but works brilliantly for peanuts.
Our apartment block have just hooked something up for a fixed price of 150QR for as long as ADTV have the rights. Haven't been home to try it out yet, but the wife reckons we've got 3 channels and it just hooked up to the back of the tv into the arial socket, but nothing into the box. Sounds weird, will investigate later.....
Yep, signed up through Mosaic yesterday, 35QR per month for about 6 channels and all games.
@LostInSpace it's already pricey enough, now these people add their own mark-up to it. And in three years time, when ADMCs contract runs out and another provider gains the rights, we'll probably have to buy new hardware again.
but people tell me that Mozaic is only QR35 per month extra for the EPL, is that true? getting tired of watching it with Italian commentary!
its 999AED in Dubai so a bit pricey, prob the only place selling it so they think they can charge what they like..
sounds an OK price to me. What should it be?
Update : Galaxy Electronics on Al Nasr Street are selling the AD sports decoder and smart cards.....for the rip-off price of QR 1,250/-
Think I'll stick with sopcast.
This might help

Let me know how you get on. If it works, I might ask you to get me one ;)
Well i've been reading this thread for a while now deciding what will work and what wont work and i finally took the plunge and bought the Humax decoder and 12 month ADMC subscription from Dubai yesterday.
I have a large dish pointing to Nilesat and would like to know the frequency needed for this....
Also inside the box is a leaflet regarding activation of the card you need to supply ADMC with some basic details..
Name, telephone number, Receiver ID code and Veiwing card number these are easy its all supplied but the problem is it also asks for your country of residence...Now if i put Qatar will this cause me a problem???
Any help would be welcomed if i can get my system working i have colleagues who visit Dubai weekly so obtaining systems for anyone that needs one will not be a problem as long as it is legal of course!!
see one thing you should know that the AD sports Decoder is a Humax HD receiver with builtin Subscription for one year of English premier league. when it ends you just take the receiver code which is on the box and on the back of the receiver to them, they will renew it. and the channels that comes with the package are.

and you don't worry the good news is that if you don't have a HDMI (high definition media interface) input in your TV. and have a normal AV out. you can still connect the receiver through AV output and enjoy the EPL channels in normal quality. the ones having a hdmi support in TV will be able to watch the broadcast in HD. for more info visit this link to know about the subscription types

HD Explained
Do I need an HD TV set to watch the BPL?
- No you don’t, Barclays Premier League will be available to everyone who purchases an AD SPORTS HD decoder or who subscribes through Cable TV, regardless of whether they have an HD television set.
If I have a standard Definition TV what will I get?
- While the shows will all be produced and broadcast in high definition, fans who have a Standard Definition TV set will still be able to watch The Barclays Premier League in Standard Definition.
If I have an HD TV what will I see?
- People who own HD TV sets and have all the correct hardware, including an HDMI cable, will benefit from the enhanced full high definition experience. But don't worry if you don't - you will still be able to watch the fantastic Premier League programming we are preparing on either a high definition or standard definition TV set.
There are 3 great ways to watch so you don’t need to miss a second of the action.
- The BPL will be accessible to you however you choose to watch, online, and on TV, Live and Exclusive on AD Sports TV and admcsport.com or from your local IPTV provider.

And yes,Spurs play their 1st ever Champions League match tonight as well.
Up the Arse-nal! :D I saw the Spurs game on Mozaic. Was very good!
I called them today, they say they may have some news within the next 5 days or so...
Although I watched Spuds vs City yesterday on Sopcast, and it was alright...at least it didn't stop to buffer endlessly, and you could make out individual players. And it was free.
SM - is that the satellite shop near Jaidah flyover?

Was trying to watch from online streaming today.. Was not impressed.
Wow TV is getting expensive, 365 QR/month for Showtime, bought a Humax decoder and forked over the cash for the Al Jazeera card to watch WC, and now, have to spend more for another card for EPL? My living room is starting to look more like mission control at NASA!
Well today i only called Humax here who are authorized dealers for Al-Jazeera HD receivers and other providers like showtime and Orbit. and they said by next week the Abu Dhabi Decoders will be available with them, so all u need is a LCD with a HDMI port. get a Nile Sat attach it to the receiever (Abu Dhabi HD receiever) and you are good to go.

Do you know if they are selling the decoder which is advertised on ADMC's website, or the Humax dual card HD receiver? Since I have a JSC card as well and would ideally like to be able to use both cards simultaneously.
well the big game coming up is between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Sorry to butt in peeps, but do any of you know anything about getting a slingbox to work here? I've got my slingbox hooked up to my Sky+ box at home in the UK and can view it remotely there but can't seem to access it in Doha. Please help...
Being a crazed Manchester United Supporter and having had the chance to meet them here in Doha I wonder if I will ever see them on TV again while in Doha. We live at the Pearl and if you want internet you can only get it via Vodafone...so no Moziac. Cannot use any cards in my receiver since you can only apply for OSN via UDC. So now I sacrificed watching the EPL for the Pearl stunning views (it really sucks). Is there anyone that live at Pearl have any idea how to get EPL coverage.
i have a HD receiever and Full HD TV on which i am watching Al Jazeera normal and Al -Jazeera HD channels. i am just searching for local dealer or someone who sell those cards
thanks
Fazzal
Arabsat I think mate....
Raven! Which satellite is your dish pointing to?
Baldrick, thanks.
Scratch my question about the cost. Just spoke to Qtel and they don't know how much it's going to be, how you add the service, when you can add the service. In fact, they don't know anything you might actually want to know.
at Hassan - nope no probs at all in activating, in fact the guy in the shop I bought the package from said the HD Decoders were suppose to work in the GCC...and mine is working fine at the moment.
NM, I got this from Qtel:
Please be informed the EPL ( English Premier League ) from AD Sports is now available on Channels no. 651,652,653,654 and 655.
The channels will be open to all existing Moazic TV+ customers until 31st August.
From 1st September customer can apply the service with the offer one year contract and will get ( two months free of charge )
So it looks like its free till 1st September.
The Mozaic webpage doesn't list these channels at all (surprise!) but as I am already seeing the test channels without being invited to subscribe (as is the case with a couple of the moview channels on my current set up) then can I assume I am already good to go or are they going to block these channels by the weekend? The latter does seem unlikely, I feel.
The premier league broadcasts are going to be on new ADTV pay channels (+1, +2 etc), which will be a separate package on mozaic...
I see the ADTV channels on my (thankfully company paid-for) Moziac channel line up. Qtel won't suddenly switch these channels into 'premium' mode or somesuch, will they?
@Raven...did you have any issues in activating the decoder? I read somewhere (I think it was on QL, that the decoders have location encryption or something like that, that would make them useless in Qatar)
Again Qatar shoots itself in the foot and stuffs around the sportsfan...the UAE have had these boxes for sale for a few months now, I picked one up in Dubai at the weekend...999AED incl years sub...it is an HD decoder with dual slots so fits in my showtime card as well...plugged it in, tuned it and both cards working fine...if anyones in the UAE soon I recommend grab one, have had no trouble hooking mine up....
Stand-alone sales of smartcards to watch AD Sports’ new pay-TV channels will have to wait until current decoders are upgraded.
The matter is of wide interest to sport fans as AD Sports will be showing English Premier League football matches starting this season.
The smartcards, available for a year-long subscription, presently come only as part of a package with the AD Sports Humax high-definition (HD) decoder, which sells at Dh999.
They will soon be compatible with the Humax decoder sold by Al Jazeera for this year’s World Cup.
Customers with an Al Jazeera Humax decoder had hoped they could buy an AD Sports smartcard to view the English matches. But that will be the case only after Humax provides a software upgrade to the Al Jazeera boxes. No time frame was provided for the upgrade.
“Smartcards will be available to buy separately in the future, but will only be compatible with the latest Humax HD decoders that are today being sold on the market,” said Karim Sarkis, the executive director of broadcasting at Abu Dhabi Media Company, which owns AD Sports and The National. “The reason is that we are using new technologies which will not work with older boxes.”

Well the season only starts on sunday so they have plenty of time...
hassan its all pie in the sky at the moment. I do believe you need the Humax decoder with two slots which does do HD.
Hukhan...will we need an HD decoder, or will the card work on a standard def decoder? As I understand, all the premiership broadcasts will be in HD.
Thanks for the information.
Mozaic's channel coverage is ok.The picture quality is also good enough.I watched a couple of matches last season at a friend's place who has mozaic and osn's coverage was pretty good.
So guys ADTV Sports definitely is giving away its cards to be used on Humax decoders. If you can get your hands on a Humax decoder with two card slots one can take the ADTV one. ADTV broadcasts on Nilesat 101, Asiasat 5, Badr 6, Atlantic Bird 4A and Amos 2.
In theory if you have a decoder and dish already pointed to one of these satellites using a Humax decoder you can use existing decoder or get a new one with two slots and stick the ADTV Premier League package card and it should work. A bit of a big if since we need to confirm that ADTV Sports that is showing EPL is coming on all these satellites. But I am looking into it....
Does anyone know how good is Mozaic's reception?
Here's an update.
I have heard that Qtel has started showing the AD Sports channels for the Premier League in it's mozaic tv+.Some channels are in test mode, others showing ads and past season's matches.
No guys it's still AD Sports that has the broadcasting rights for the Premier League.
A local paper printed an article in a local newspaper declaring they had bought the rights to Prem League 2010/11. My Qatari collegue showed it to me a few months ago.
My Al Jazeera Sports card purchased in May 2010, came with a receipt stating for WC 2010 English Premier league 2010/11...
However I dont expect a refund from either the shop or Al Jaz
I think the shop you're referring to is Fono Telecom, opposite that kids saloon.
But I don't remember Jazeera ever claiming that they were going to show the Premier League?
Are they giving refunds on the WC card?
I telephoned Al Jaz sports last night, mainly for a refund on the card I bought for the World Cup and 'Premier league' 2010/11. Thye told me to wait another week as they are definatley going to show the games.......
You couldnt make this up....
Sorry pal but im not sure of the name ofthe shop. I just remember its on the top floor ( opposite end to the cinema). Small mobile / telecom shop next to the smaller food court.
Matty! Is that TCC? What's the shop's name?
I am sure the sports bar in Ramada will be showing. Can anyone check with them which subscription they use? We can get the same one.
Any ideas Baldrick? we could do with a cunning plan right now...
I'd still rather pay 270/year for streaming than 285/month for Mozaic. I have a 2meg ADSL connection now. If I go Mozaic I have to drop to 1meg and that REALLY sucks!!!! :o(
ADTV have started taking subscriptions to watch the games online, but I fail to see why I should pay money for streams, when there's plenty of sites that'll be streaming the matches for free. (Not to mention the fact that for some bizarre reason, GCC residents will have to pay some AED 150 extra for the online coverage??? )
Why is it that Qatar continues to shoot itself in the foot when it comes to these things, and YES this is a Qatar problem NOT a ADTV problem, Q-Tel have the rights to show it in Qatar through their Moziac service. This really should have been sorted out months ago, but again we the consumer and sportsfan have to suffer through the inepitube of another Qatari company. If it wasn't bad enough with Al Jazeera stuffing up the WC coverage. Surely not a good look for the Qatar WC bid....
Theres a small phone shop selling the ADTV cards at QR375 and 'apparantly they work in the Humax decoder.
I cant wait for QTEL to decide if they are showing the games and besides watching live sports on Mozaic is very similar to staring at a childs painting. Colourful and loud, but you cant really tell whats going on...
I haven't purchased a card yet because quite frankly I dont believe a word any of them say....
Theonly cards that work are HD cards for Humax decoders. But the question still remains: If you can bring the original decoder from Abu Dhabi with 12 months card pre installed can we make it work?
In theory as long as satellite does not do location based encryption, which I think is too much bother, it should work.
So we can't watch in HD and we have to deal with QSmell. I agree w*nkers!
OK, scrap that having revisited the last link. w*nkers!
Hukhan, here's a few links:

I already have the dish and decoder as I was watching Showsports last season. My mate will be going for the card on Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes.
it's less than two weeks for the Premier League to start.
Dude I am sure we can get the card and the decoder. Where will we get the satellite dish from and who will install it? I just wanna know if someone has done this so I can follow. Search does not show this.
Hit the search box. discussed many times already. personally, I'm getting a mate in Dubai to send me a card.
You raise a very good point mate, I can't see why ADTV don't make the HD Boxes available throughout the MENA region where they have the rights....at the moment we have to deal with the useless Q-Tel...
