Qatar lose 4-1 to United Arab Emirates in AFC Asia Cup
Qatar got off to a poor start in the AFC Asia Cup 2015 after losing 4-1 to United Arab Emirates in their first Group C match held in Canberra, Australia Sunday morning.
Although Qatar opened the scoresheet, courtesy of a stunning finish from Khalfan Ibrahim, UAE emerged as victors by taking advantage of several defensive and goalkeeping errors from the Gulf Cup champions. Qatar goalkeeper Qasem Burhan was at least partially responsible for three of the four goals.
Ahmed Khalil and Ali Mabkhout scored two goals each, ensuring the UAE scored four goals in an Asian Cup game for the first time.
The UAE squad will remain in Canberra to take on Bahrain on Thursday, when Qatar plays Iran in Sydney. A loss in the next game will result in Qatar exiting the tournament, although tipped by many as a potential contender at this tournament
