Hello Mozaismyhero,

I humbly disagree with you. Bringing Raul here is not just with the single aim of winning trophies, although that's a part of the scheme. Him being here (however old he may be) is seen as a way of increasing the profile of the Qatar League (just like Maradona is doing in neighbouring UAE by coaching the Al Wasl Club).

They want to attract fans and more importantly, local players. Many would jump at the chance of meeting/playing with the legend. And why cannot he help the local players? I, for one, am pretty sure that Al Sadd players will be a lot more motivated to do their best while in his presence.

Brazilian Juninho played for two seasons with Al Gharafa (he left last year) and see the difference he made. He motivated the players so much and they won several titles under his captaincy.

About Raul's age... he may be old by European standards. But his decision to come to the region, to a place where the game isn't as demanding as in Europe, was sound.

Don't look at him as just a player who followed money to the Middle East. He is here on a much larger mission, which is to improve the League in time for the 2022 World Cup. I think his inclusion was the right way. And I'm pretty confident he will not be the last big name signing in Qatar next season...

That is correct but most of us are not the wrong side of 70 so well past our useful working age and making statements that we will change the industry we are in! At least we are honest about the reasons we are here...

Ah, I understand now. All the people who commented on this thread are in Qatar not for earning a living, but for the higher good of the Qatari people. They are selfless and work for free, with only the good wishes of Qataris as a reward for their work...

I really don't understand what is the problem if a player comes here to play for the money... Aren't we all? Grow up and stop being repetitive and negative about anything happening in Qatar...

You're right, Raul needs a last multi-million dollar pay off because he is poor and needs to fund his retirement....

It's not "vanity", moza, that's unislamic. It's mercy.

Great player in his day, but then again so was Pele. Will he come out of retirement now? Its just a vanity project and the standard is awful

True, moza. He resigned from the Bundesliga because of his age.
