Hi--I will be traveling with my cat on Lufthansa in two weeks. She has a reservation to be with us in the cabin from Houston-Frankfurt-Doha. I will try to get back on and let you know how it goes when we arrive.
I think the current advice is to NOT sedate your pet while traveling as you cannot be sure how they will react to it. I have traveled with my cat several times (always in the cabin, but only domestic so it's never been such a long trip) and she always seems to settle down once the engines are running on the plane (white noise & vibration, I guess). Each cat is different though so you may or may not have the same luck. There might be restrictions on letting a small cat like yours in the cargo area; I'm sure KLM has their rules online.
Do a search here on this forum and you'll find a few threads on pet stores in Doha (I can't help with this, obviously, as I am still in the US).
