I live near Al Sadd stadium and travel to Doha Academy daily. It takes about 15 minutes to get there at the start and end of school times. During quieter periods I can get to Doha Academy in about 10 minutes. The main shopping area of Al Sadd is about 10 minutes from where I am.

Regarding a "proper" map of Doha, your best bet is to look at satellite images online. Wikimapia is quite a good one as most of it has been labelled by users and is fairly up to date. You can also try Google earth and virtual earth but these have fewer labels.
