If you are divorced and have your divorced papers and proof that the child should be with you, custody and depending on where you work(reputable company or governtment should be no problem or it should not be difficult at all. Maybe the person handling your friends case did not know how to do this. The person I used to take care of all immigration issues is good and he knows the rules and the ways to stretch them a bit. honestly sometimes if you are single and non muslim it is more difficult because of the way the people are thinking. I am muslim, looking like the local women so it was easier and I have 4 children, like I said depends on circumstance.
