Having said that, a lot of new people in Doha have a hard time getting decent housing here, so if you are in a bad way with housing, you may not have much choice.
If you are going to work in Ras Laffan, I would look long and hard at Al Thakira (near Al Khor). It is on the water, close to work, private villas, etc. I have been here a while and if I had to find my own housing, I would check that out.
