Strong winds and dusty weather are expected to prevail in Qatar today, an official of the Met office said yesterday.
“We expect an extending ridge of high pressure coming from northwest Saudi Arabia accompanied by strong north-westerly winds,” a Met official said.
It will be associated with dusty weather and low visibility between 3km and 1km or even less over open places.
A dense dust storm hit the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh yesterday, forcing the closure of the King Khaled International Airport for several hours.
The official said the strong winds would reach Doha between 1 and 2am today. Its intensity would be more felt after about an hour.
However, the Met office said the weather was unlikely to be chilly in the next 24 hours owing to the advent of fresh winds.
The weather office said inshore winds would likely be between 15 to 25 knots and offshore between 15 to 25 knots.
