Half of my family live in the Cayman Islands in the caribbean. The Caymans were hit by a strong hurricane a few years back and the damage was extensive. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and there was no water or power for weeks. Women and children were evacuated to the States and it was four months before they were able to return.

I know how awful the effects of flooding can be and the heartbreaking experience of losing all your possessions. However, you are right, in comparison to natural disasters elswehere in the world where people die, it is a small thing.

Anyway, to all my English friends, time to stiffen the upper lip and recall the spirit of the blitz. I hope the water recedes quickly and life gets back to normal.
