Honestly, I don't talk to Qataris because of their attire. I have a friend, Qatari who's a jeans and t-shirt guy and one day I saw him in thoupe (sp?, apologies if incorrect)and I was petrified. Wouldnt go near him...I don't know, I find Qatari's dressed in their traditional wear very reserved and a bit frightening. And Im not talking about terrorism etc etc, they just look very majestic and aloof...??! And because they dont make eye contact, I assume they're simply not interested in interacting. Before coming here I heard the ladies shove people in the supermarket and stuff but Iv never experienced that. I suppose though that "image" is implanted in my subconscious because I avoid walking near them, afraid I'll step on their abaya more than anything, lol. All 3 Qatari ladies Iv met and chatted with are really nice. A friend was telling me that Qatari's view their reservation as a sign of respect to others. And yes, I do think the older generation of men especially are much more courteous and friendly and interested in cultures other than their own, but thats the trend in most countries.
