Mikaylasmom - what are you on about?! The kitten is 6 1/2 weeks old so does NOT need it's mother's milk every couple of hours!! Kittens at this age are more then capable of eating kitten biscuit and kitten meat. At QAWS when we have orphaned kittens, sometimes we have to start weaning them at 3 or 4 weeks old. Yes it's nice for the kitten to stay with it's mum as long as possible but it won't die if you wean them early.
You need to feed your kitten a good quality kitten biscuit (meowmix kitten is the best as it's really small biscuit pieces) and kitten meat (giant stores in hyatt plaza have had a huge delivery of Whiskas kitten meat) and DO NOT give them cow's milk!
The kitten needs to have a bowl of kitten biscuit down all the time and a bowl of fresh water all the time as well. At this age I would recommend that you be feeding the kitten 3 or 4 small meat meals per day with each meal being half a sachet.
When the kitten is older it can be left all day provided it has access to a litter tray, biscuit and water. At this age you need to be around to feed it but you can leave him/her 5 or 6 hours between meals.
Please don't leave meat down for a long time as it attracts flies and in the heat it will become nasty and give your kitten an upset stomach.
Make sure you take your kitten to the vet as soon as possible to have him/her de-wormed and checked over. It's still too young to be vaccinated but you'll need to get them done when it's 8 weeks old and again at 12 weeks.
If you have anny more questions please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]
