We're a professional photography company from Miami and have recently relocated to Doha. There are two components to this.
Do you simply want digital images without post processing and printing or will you be looking for photoshop retouching and prints?
If the answer is just digital images then you can find semi-pros to professionals whos rates typically range from 100-300 USD per hour. If you're seeking retouching and printing then obviously the fee changes quite a bit.
As this is a semi casual gathering I'm guessing high res digital images on DVD or a Passowrd Protected Web Gallery is likely what you're looking for.
One word of caution. Events are much like Weddings, its a one shot opportunity. No "do-overs". Always make sure you are hiring a photographer who has Event or Wedding type experience. These are photographers who have enough experience to know how to make the technical adjustments under any condition, under a limited timeframe to make sure you get the images you deserve and have paid for. Sounds fair right! Additionally, they need to be familiar lighting with small flashes both indoors and outdoors as most Events either dont have enough available light (night, indoors) or too much (middle of the day)! Finally, make sure they have the right gear and compositional knowledge. "Point and shoots" in the hands of an amateur look like...well..point and shoots in the hands of an amateur. Bottom line, this isnt going to make you or your guests look good.
There are a number of great photographers here in Doha. I'm confident you CAN find what you need to give you great shots for your party and come away feeling great!!
