usually called gout. Symptoms include painful and swollen joints, usually in the feet (though I've got it in my hands). I have found that to control I need to eat no red meat or shellfish. There is lots of information on the internet about the diet you should follow. I have found that eating a handful of cherries every day makes a difference, and so does drinking as much water as I can - should get up to 3 litres per day. And exercise!
