Here in Qatar it all depends on the owner of the property.
Some owners require a 3 to 6 months advance in payment with post dated checks until the contract is up and one months refundable deposit given back at the end of contract.( Some Cash the check and some don't it all depends on who the owner is and what he wants)
Some will accept monthly payments with a one month refundable security deposit. But you always have to pay post dated checks...
One other thing you should know before you go out with a real estate agent is that most of them will charge you a finder's fee of one months rent or 1/2 a months rent so be sure before you go with them what they want from you.
