i have done it once when I was in college and it was a good experience and did it twice here. the second date ended up to be my husband.It works for me. But never go to a stranger. Let or ask a friend to give you a date, for sure she/he wont give you somebody else for a date.And dating means getting to know each other in a nice restaurant, bar  or a coffe shop.
