Let's not forget that Carrefour had one of its stores' fresh foods department closed for that very same reason a few months ago - bad food on sale! I think it was Villagio - correct me if I am wrong but it could have been City Centre - so this news is not surprising if it is true yet again.
The fresh food quality at either Carrefour City Centre or Villagio is seldom up to my (Australian) standards so I usually buy mine at Megamart even though it is more expensive - but at least it is better quality. But they too have their problems with selling older food occasionally. And their handling of meat and chicken at times is questionable - leaving it out stacked around the cold storage counters while they were either fixing or cleaning? Really disturbing especially with chicken!
I guess we are stuck with these problems if we want to eat - and as with many things here - no other choice! :(
Just hope that you don't get food poisoning and check the use-by dates on absolutely everything!
Until Qatar recognises the normal world-wide standards for all food handling, storage and sale - things will remain the same here IMHO.
