What brought this to my attention is looking in a museum of Qatari items...just a mere 30 years ago it was incredibly different. The photos reminded me of the old desert movies you used to see like Casablanca...

The Qataris are very advanced in almost all aspects. I know in the States, it was very unfortunate but it was cheaper for the car manufacturers to pay out in lawsuits than it was to require seatbelts in all cars...and even then, it was only in the front seat! Same thing with the gas(petrol) tanks that exploded upon impact...no recall until too many people sued them. Surely it won't come to that here before seat belts are required for children. That would be very sad indeed. Be nice if they learn from other countries' mistakes and tragedies rather than experience them for themselves.

And yes, I know..its not just the Qataris that do this..I've seen many different nationalities using this behaviour.

I always wear a seatbelt..its second nature to belt up...that comes from being in a car accident in high school, where I was IN the backseat. In a 1972 Buick Le Sabre...BIG heavy car...got hit head on, we were stationary and the Mustang that hit us was only going about 50 mph...my sister's friend went through the windshield...sister (who was driving and wearing her seatbelt) got a knock on the head from steering wheel...Me...back seat, no seatbelt available...moved the front seat up 8 inches, with my shins and collar bones..both of which left very deep impressions in the steel bar in the back of the front seat...have worn a seat belt ever since...
