What the police report is for is should your landlord present the cheque (out of malice) is negaite you from the responsiblity. If you stop the cheque without the police report or by not having the money in the account then you are the person responsible and it means that you can be arrested and detained by the police till you make the payment. so your land lord wins if you go to the police present your case and get the report to present to the bank then should your landlord present the cheque then you have done nothing wrong and he cannot claim the money and wont be able to claim the money and you won't end up in jail.
