If you are using company equipment on company time - then so be it. It is what it is. Most places I have worked have a policy that clearly states the rules, requirements, rights and obligations of both the employee and the employer when it comes to computer use. The policy states that internet activity may be monitored. That pretty much says it all to me.
But any email from anywhere can be monitored and can come back and bite you in the behind at any given time. Same is true for text messaging. So don't put anything incriminating in writing if you are worried about it. As for me - I say go ahead and take a look - I'm just about one of the most boring people on the planet. If you have nothing better to do than check up on me - then the snooping business must be pretty darn slow. :D
