Like we need another worthless discovery in the field of science!
NASA invented the Fischer Space pen. It writes under water, in vacuum, upside down etc etc. Cost a couple of million $ to do. Russians use pencils ;-)
Having said that, the space program gave us:
Velcro,
Shape memory metal,
artificial heart technology
smoke detectors
electronic thermometers
advances in ceramics, metallurgy, clothing materials, crash helmets, plastics, semi conductors, sports training
joystick controllers
edible toothpaste (wont catch ME using it though)
water purification systems
solar energy conversion
magnetic liquids
and on and on and on. almost every area of modern life has been "improved" through research done by NASA.
