In the bible, the word wife is mentioned in singular form, and a married man or woman can only marry again if he or she is widowed. Nothing was ever mentioned that enables anyone to have more than one wife, at least in the new testament. Reconciliation for a husband and wife and celibacy were also encouraged (not forced) to live a life of service for the Lord. Almost all Christians base their faith on the new testament btw.
