Just a minor correction. You say:

"The closure is probably for not meeting health and safety standards, but if you cook the meat thoroughly (as you should be if you're pregnant!) then you should be fine."

BUT (and it's a big but!) if the food is infected with Staphylococci, then the bacteria, as they grow, release a toxin into the food. This happens even at refrigerator temperature.

Cooking will kill the original bacteria infection, but it will not remvoe the toxin, and it is the toxin that makes you sick.
