its very interesting how people tend to go off on a tangent once they get something into their heads.

In this instance some people are convinced vodafone are bad.

As long time Qtel customer with no ties to either Qtel and Voda, I can say without doubt my initial experience with Vodafone is that they are far far superior to Qtel.

The only reason qtel got away with such a poor level of service in the past is because they were the incumbent with no competition.

My experiences of going into a qtel store have been very poor and close to shocking. How difficult is it to get information on their broad band packages? its as if the staff are doing me a favour by helping me when really thats their job!!!

Qtel are the company that until a few month ago had no inclusive call packages, used to charge extra for caller id (?????!!!) and were without doubt operating as a third tier telco.

Even now I think they have struggled to get themselves into gear as Vodafone begin their service.

The whole brandiing and customer experience between the two could not be any more different.

I will for sure be sticking with my Vodafone line - i dont see the problem with credit card / direct debit payments, I would like to see the level of qtels bad debt write offs or aging of their sales ledger as their credit control is non existant. What vodafone are doing is nothing more than sensible business practice - pretty standard stuff.

It will be interesting to see when they launch the Iphone - if they get the price point correct then they will hit the high spending segment of the market and will surely take alot of customers away from Qtel.

The current penetration rate in qatar is 160%+ (from memory). i,e the average person has more than one line.

I can only see this stat increasing should people take voda lines and have to keep a qtel line for their business mobile / blackberry.

If voda can start offering value added services and innovative products then they will clearly be able to boost their average revenue per user in a country where ARPU is very high already!

As a telco analyst in the past and having experienced the service of a number of telcos throughout the world (esp the UK). I have to say that the launch of voda in qatar has far exceeded my expectation.

I hope they keep up the good work and at the very least kick qtel into shape. It grown into a fat cumbersome corporation with no competition and needs to liven up to the new environment it is operating in.

A happpy vodafone convert - keep up the good work guys!
