"People of the Book" needs to be defined, before answering this question. You see back then they Christians did not believe that Jesus was God as most of them think now (which is prefectly ok if that is your belief. I am not judging) But now Christians believe that Jesus is equal to God or is God. So these editions in beliefs change the religion thus there is no such thing as "people of the book".
