I am not exactly sure of what needs to be done as it easy for me to just comment sitting in my own comforts.

You are the one who needs to act on what you think is right for you, considering the fact that you have people dependant on you back home.

In my opinion, in case they refuse to even let you leave the company, you could leave the country on emergency leave and not return.
