i totally agree with u!!! i'm a bird (parrot) lover & owner too. i too am no happy with the local pet industry, but i do my bit by being very careful of wat i buy. i only buy captive bred birds/animals/fish. i stay clear of any wild caught birds.
thats the intelligent way to do it, not shun the whole idea of keeping pets!!! do ur research, ask as many questions as u want!!! a seller who isnt interested or doesnt wanna answer ur questions doesnt really care for the welfare of the bird/animal he is selling. dont buy frm this kinda ppl!!! this whole controversy of keeping birds/animals as pets or to b left in the wild is something v all could argue for days together!!! the justifications rn't a matter of convenience or turning a blind eye to certain facts, but to do the right thing with the welfare of the creature very clearly in ur mind and a as priority!!!
y do v have breeders??? so that a potential pet owner is ensured and guaranteed of the good quality of the pet he/she is buying. this also inhibits the need to pick up creatures frm their natural environment!!! breeders would make it not-worthwhile for these catchers to go into the jungles, climb up trees & shove their hands into dark moist tree hollows to pick up birds/animals that have no guarantee of survival even upto the nearest airport!!! also u never kno wat kinda illnesses the creature might bring into its new environment!!! this way u can curb the availability of wild-caught specimens in the market!!!
oppose wild harvests, support the well-being of the pets.
note: wen i say "creature" i dont mean it in a derogatory way, just a single-word-reference to animal/birds/fish, etc.
