Mike,
Regardless of what websites may say (they are quite good here at deceiving the readers) Qatar's tourism industry is underdeveloped and not attractive to the masses. The so called “respect for the local culture”, keeps people away.
There is no reason to travel here expect for transiting when you fly Qatar Airways to one of its many destinations.
The few employed here in this industry make an average of 1000 CAD$/month (not enough to live here for western standards).
Qatar employs its great majority of workforce from countries where salaries are extremely low and offers them a little more, which is way below the minimum salary in Canada.
Qatar is not worth it, unless you have at least 10-15 years of experience and you are in some engineering or education fields.
Only senior and professional jobs here are attractive to westerners.
