We are all here looking or working for a job that pays us the salary we think we deserve.
However, your husband started on the wrong foot. You see here in Qatar there are 2 types or category, if you like, of potential employees: Local hires and Professional hires.
Professional hires are people who were hired usually from out of the country because of their specific skill set. So the company that hires them thinks their skill set is what the company needs. These people may get the package they want because it is the company that is after them.
Local hires are people who came here to Qatar hoping to find a job that would fit their skills and would have income they want. Some are lucky enough to get both. But most end up wanting because the employer knows they are desperate for a job and are staying here on borrowed time because of their visa expiration. To the employer, they are the ones desperate for a job.
2. My family back home is hearing all about my complaints.
As a friendly suggestion, try not to tell horrible stories to loved ones far away. You don't know the stress you are giving them for worrying about your situation.
3.Do Qatarians really want this reputation of being racist?
It is the visa system and every country has a visa system. The US does this, Canada does this, even Europe does this. Each country sets visa quotas for certain Nationalities. We do not hear complaints of racism about that.
As an example, Indians and Filipinos are not eligible for the US Diversity Immigrant Visa Program. Yet you do not hear us complaining about it but many of us go through the gruelling process of obtaining a US visa anyway.
4.Why are you choosing to hire an Indian or Phillipino with no education or experience over my husband?
You complain against racism but I think this question comes from someone who has a racist mindset. Maybe they prefer these Nationalities because they can hire 3 or 4 of them for a salary of 1 Western expat and yet do a good or even better job than them. With the globalization, Professional certifications are the equalizer.
Or it can be that they have no quota for Nigerians. For example there was a time our company cannot get a visa for a certain nationality and the reason given is that our sponsor has reached the yearly quota for that nationality. Also until today we cannot get visa for single ladies so all the ladies our company can hire for now are those under husband sponsor. Again it is the visa process which every country has.
5.What is the problem? Everyone he meets immediately likes him and he is a great leader with many people looking up to him for support and help. I don't get it.
I think the answers above will help you get a clearer picture. Your husband being here looking for a job gets him to fall under local hire category. Maybe if gets more experience from your home country or from Nigeria were there are Oil companies too then apply from there maybe he will get the job he wants and the salary he deserves.
