Vaccines are administered for the purpose of helping prevent illness and disease so I think it would be better for your son to get a flu shot this year as his shot last year may have already expired. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. And remember, the flu vaccine is chicken based so make sure that your son is not allergic to chicken or eggs so there will be no allergic reaction:)
