I feel compelled to share my diabolical experience, following my husband and I’s visit to the Malaysian Restaurant at Souq Wakif, Doha. How I will ever forget the vision and thought of such filth in a kitchen beggers belief!
We'd already been to the Souq the week before and had enjoyed ambling around the place. After making some novel purchases in the alleyways we loved watching the people pass-by while enjoying some refreshments. The experience was very positive and as someone living in Doha for a period of months I hoped we would frequently return. I'd not seen the camels or falcons at the Souq this first time, so we went back to find them and on doing so were very happy and the start of our evening was great. For that I recommend the place wholeheartedly!!! :o)
We knew where the restaurants were, having seen them in the setting sun and they looked and sounded very appealing. The choices weren't bad and on finding the Malaysian restaurant at the end of the Souq it reminded us of the fresh food that was served to us in Malaysia and seemed a good option. We weren't overly hungry but on reading the menu our appetite soon grew. We both ordered the Soup (a safe bet) which was more than ample (served in a small casserole size dish). Realising we wouldn’t be able to manage the main there and then we requested, before finishing our soup, that we take the remained food to go. Thinking it would cooked fresh to go... No problem! We’ d enjoy eating it the next day or maybe when we got home.
Yesterday, after looking forward to our takeaway all day, we discovered while serving the food that deep down within the noodles was a COCKROACH, WHO HAD CLEARLY BEEN FRIED ALIVE!!!!! My husband had nearly plated the horrid shrivelled creature onto his plate, since there were other things in the noodles and he was so hungry he’d not noticed!!!! I STOPPED HIM JUST A SPOONFUL AWAY FROM THE LEGGY CRITTER! Ewwwwww – I can't help but think how he got there and wonder what those people outside with less lighting on the night must have been oblivious to.
This is like nothing I’ve come across EVER! Having them scurry about is one thing, disgusting in a kitchen obviously but NOW we will not be eating down any dark alleys / anything less than acceptable (how we would know), where you can’t see the kitchen! Suffice to say I didn’t have the stomach for anything after that. I don’t know what to do... DO THEY NOT HAVE FOOD STANDARDS / INSPECTORS!!!? SURELY THE PLACE MUST HAVE BEEN CRAWLING - I mean! WHAT???
I'd be providing photo evidence / retrieving it and demanding something by way of compensation or satisfaction, that standards would improve, if I wasn't already too sick to the stomach to retrieve the filth from the bin. Absolutely appalling....!!! SO I INTEND ON LETTING PEOPLE KNOW!
Take heed :o( BARF!
