And why would anyone bother to learn Arabic and integrate into the culture here?

1. more people in Qatar speak English than Arabic

2. people integrate into a culture when they have a chance to join it. In the U.S. immigrants are expected to learn English and American history because they have an opportunity to become citizens. No such opportunity exists in Qatar. The poor Indians who have lived here for three generations still have the farce of carrying Indian passports and being called "expats". If this is the way Qatar wants to run things, then fine. But don't kid yourself about these people's loyalty or why they should want to learn anything about you.

And btw I learned to speak Arabic years ago elsewhere but I rarely bother to use it in Qatar.
