Here is very interesting and sad story posted in Gulf Times on Saturday February 14, 2009.

Man accused of forging signature
THE trial of a man who has been accused of forging the signature of his sponsor in the application form for an exit permit, is to start early next month.
While running a check on the computer, the Immigration Department found out that the sponsor had left the country six days ago and was still abroad on July 22, 2008 when the application was submitted.

When quizzed, the 36-year-old Jordanian maintained that the sponsor had signed the form and the fact could be verified by talking to him on the phone.
However, the Jordanian did not wait for the outcome of the conversation and walked out of the building but was arrested later.
The sponsor told the officers that he did not know about the exit permit. The public prosecution quizzed the man and forwarded his case to the court.

It is very sad that in 21st century- such rules exists.

The sponcer no need to sign the hard copy of the exit permit. They can do it on line. All you need is the sponser's permission to leave the country and sponser can instruct his PRO to activate the exit permit. This can be done in less than 5 minutes.

If you don't like exit permits, then don't live in Qatar.

Why impose your values onto other people? If you don't like the way it's done here, don't be here to begin with.

The Jordanian got what he deserved.

I for once agree with BritExpat.. Rules are Rules you know what you got yourself into, why complain afterwards..

Look at the havoc in Dubai what is happening there.. People leaving without paying off there loans etc..

Once you agreed to come in Qatar for whatever purpose you know the terms and conditions. Exit permit is one of them, if you are on job. Should not deceive your sponsor and yes i agree with the fact that rule is not good.

somebody is authorized to sign in his behalf. Or in big companies, signatories are usually in hierarchy, so there will always be an alternative or next in line!

What if an employee needs to leave for any emergency and the only boss who sign exit is away what is the process?

You should look at the cause, why people are forced to forge signature for the first place. I am sure he has not rubbed bank or kill someone or did any crime that hurt anyone.

I think the issue here is about forging a signature , which is a crime in any century!.
