Am I Banned?

Hi, I worked in Doha until 2001, lost my job and left the country. I had a bank loan with 2 guarantors. Despite contacting CBQ and offering payment from the UK, they refused.

I have some business in Doha and wondered what my status would be? Would I be allowed back in 9 years later. I have a new passport now.

Any advice welcomed.

Many thanks,

Kwikfit

kwikfit, I did read all the replies and I wasn't passing judgement.

Pitstop - I think you should look at some of the replies and what I would call probing questions. Neither you nor the commenters know the guarantors or me so how can you make a fair judgement.

Anyway - amongst all of the piffle, save for one or two sensible responses - I have my answer - not from the forum.

You should also take what is posted by thread starters as the truth instead of "I find it hard to believe..." Plus, if you had read my previous post - one of the guarantors was fine - the other, plain angry and could not see sense - he simply refused to speak or accept anything. Believe it or not - I could not care a jot my friend.

Thanks to Mandhi and Ajiman for your replies.

Time to get off here.

Cheers

kwikfit, if your guarantors paid off your loan, then you have nothing with the bank. But I think the curious question was if you settled the loan payment with your guarantors. I find it hard to believe that anyone would reject a payback even when hard feelings are there. But you posted this on a public forum, so you need to accept all the replies that you get without being rude and harsh to the commenters.

Mandi, many thanks for a sensible reply and I agree with you. I only joined QL to ask this question.

I have been travelling to the country since 1983 when my brother worked there and I loved it. I visited several times before finally working there for 5 and a half years. It would be good to see the changes!

kwikfit, you have worked in the Gulf before so you know that answers and policies are never written in stone. I would venture my guess that with another passport and the passing of nine years you would be fine if you came on a visit visa, especially if your name were a common one. But that's the hazard of the Gulf, you never know for sure. I think you'd be as safe as possible if you did get your visa in advance from the embassy in the UK. I'm not sure I'd alert them to the fact that you have outstanding debts, however.

Ajmani - many thanks for keeping to the topic - I agree - should I contact the Qatar Embassy here in UK and simply ask the question - what do you suggest?

I doubt if you are banned. But again, better to check with the authorities.

Formatted Soul, please do not insult my intelligence - please feel free to contact Mr. Mond, now at Mashreq Bank and ask him about this. I did offer, and did pay one of my guarantors who but the other refused to communicate with me.

CBQ stated that I was not offering enough as it was less than the agreed monthly repayments.

It seems no one is really sure of the answer as there are a lot of conflicting replies - understood.

I know someone who was deported because of drug possession and has since been back in Doha. Just don't understand the logic behind it all.

When bank refused your payment from UK (which I doubt) you could have sebd the money to your guarantors...why would they communicate with you..if they had to pay for your loan??

I wonder why the CBQ refused your payment from UK, in my knowledge no bank will refused any payment. You have two guarantors..so contact them if they settled your bank loan. And maybe you are not banned yet.

All I know is that they were paying it but, understandably, they stopped communicating with me despite my best efforts and intentions so I cannot be 100% certain.

You can try applying for a visa at the Qatari Embassy and see if it is granted. If so, you are not banned.
