Schengen Visas are not related with Qatari or other GCC country RP. More, as I know, there is no visa convention between those areas. Important is your nationality and for sure you need a passport valid for at least 6 months.
Better to check to the embassy of the country where you want to go. They will give you all the infos related to your nationality. You will need a hotel voucher for the period you declare to stay in the country (only original/fax confirmation), travel insurance, on-return flight tickets to show the duration of travel. I am not sure about proof of permanent ocupation.... If you don't have the voucher you will need an invitation from someone (certified by local authorities). It is not very easy to obtain it- depend very much of your nationality, scope of visit and of course of your social status.
RP Validity does not have any affect on a Schengen Visa. Schengen Visa is a Visit Visa for Most European European Union Countries Excluding Britain, but including Norway(which is a non EU Country). But your Passport needs to be valid for over 6months more as other have responded. Depending on your Nationality various requirements exist to get a Schengen Visa as Novita Rightly writes(and it is not Straight Forward).
greentea, travelling to asia is not as strict as travelling to europe.
To the original poster, best you go down to the embassy and ask the question in person. I did schengen visa few times ... done it through french , italian and german embassy. They all have pretty strict requirement. You must have insurance coverage i think about 30.000 euro, enclose hotel and flight booking (they dont take internet booking print out). 6 months bank account and all the usual for applying visa.
my friend was able to travel to Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines with only 3 months valid Qatar RP last year, and had even granted a transit visa in Dubai
is it? i know it's not allowed if you're getting a visa in the gulf countries, but in other countries may be allowed as long as your passport validity is more than 6 months upon travel
