Can my son come to Qatar?

My Husband and I are hoping to move to Qatar, but before he hands in his notice at his current firm in the UK, I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knowledge of any difficulties with acquiring a family visa as my husband is not the biological father to my eldest son who is 7 and we don’t share the same surname. Could this cause a problem? thank you

Good. I'm glad things are progressing. I am sure it will all work out.

Good luck with the move, and if you need any advice, we are all here to help!

I am back in Yorkshire next week! Wahey!

Cheers,

Thank you for your replies, I am feeling a lot more confident now, my husband is speaking with the company and we are in the process of changing my sons surname to match ours via deed pole. My husband has not adopted our son as he still is very much in contact with his biological father. I hope to have this all sorted soon so that I can really get excited about coming out to Qatar. All I seem to read is fantastic reviews about life in Qatar (apart from the driving) and it is so depressing in the UK at the moment with the recession.

thanks again

all depends on how good is a PRO (MR.Fixman) in your husbands company...My husband doesnt have neither legal guardianship nor he he adopted 2 of my children from the firs marriage... we still got visas and have moved to Doha 6 weeks ago with no problems...

Nothing remains the same, and everything will change at some point.

Eh up Yorkshire Lass,

Yes, this is a sensitive issue here. Does your husband have legal guardianship or has he adopted your son?

One of my colleagues has recently gone through this with Immigration, and it takes a lot of time and a lot of paperwork.

The company which has offered your hubby a job should be able to offer advice on this also.

Hope it is all sorted, would be good to see some fellow Yorkshire folk out here!

Cheers,

I have gone through the same situation. What you need is a letter from the UK government certifying that you are the legal guardian. I was asked for copy of marriage license, bank statements for the last six months, documents stating that my wife was the legal guardian. Ironically the Qatari officials only wanted to deal with me on this matter and not my wife. Have your husband make it a point to his employer that he will not allow your family to be split up.

This is a very important issue for you since your job acceptance will probably be determined by whether or not your husband can sponsor your son. I have heard several differing experiences with this and suggest you do a search on "step son," "step child," etc here in QL. Then you should call the British Embassy here and talk to consular services for their advice. Finally you should get an opinion from your husband's prospective employer. Good luck!
