Employment Laws in Doha
Hello Everyone, We are planning to move to Doha from the UK and as a rookie had a few questions:
1. Are most of the jobs contractual or is there a concept of permanent jobs?
2. Is there a possibility of getting part time jobs for stay at home moms?
3. Does employer contributes towards medical insurance of the employee and family?
4. Going through other posts in this forum, is it correct to assume that you cant change your job before two years or only if you get NOC from the employer.
5. How hard is it to go out of QATAR on holidays? Do we need an exit and rentery visa?
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks
I just want to clarify #2 for the OP.
A woman on her father or husband's sponsorship can get a contractual job here.
If the company agrees to hire her (I don't think it matters if it's full or part time) without changing her sponsorship, she can get a work permit from the Ministry of Labor. The company will have to endorse her application and her permit card will state that she is legally working for them for the duration of her contract.
Students and stay-at-home moms do find some freelance work here occasionally, such as writing content for social media sites or publications, or some creative work. However, I don't know how "legal" those job arrangements are. Same goes for little informal jobs like baby-sitting.
Thank you all for for the info, it really helps.
Are most of the jobs contractual or is there a concept of permanent jobs?- Contacts usually are renewable upon mutual agreement, so basically you can call it permanent, although personnel turnover in Qatar is rather on a very high level, people just keep coming and going, for whatever reason
2. Is there a possibility of getting part time jobs for stay at home moms? - it's illegal to work on the family visa. In order to legally work, you have to obtain a Work Permit. To obtain a work permit you have to be hired by some company.
3. Does employer contributes towards medical insurance of the employee and family - Medical coverage is free in the government clinic. To have a private medical insurance, you have to negotiate your contract, unless it's a Company policy
4. Going through other posts in this forum, is it correct to assume that you cant change your job before two years or only if you get NOC from the employer. - you cannot change you job even after 2 years, or even after 10 years, unless you got a NOC.
5. How hard is it to go out of QATAR on holidays? Do we need an exit and rentery visa?- your husband will need an exit permit. You as his dependant dont need an exit permit to leave Qatar. Your Residence permit is your "reentry visa"
Welcome to Qatar!
