yup, they dont. I believe only Saudi and Qatar does it :( . That sucks
BUt in terms of keeping their passport, its illegal. normally a big company doesnt do it. its mortal sin to give up your passport.
they will ask for it during your residency stamping, but after you got your residency, it should be on your hands already.

it depends on the company whether they want to keep the passport or not. it is against the law but a normal practice here. even my own company does.
exit permit is obtained by all expats to go out of doha.
but... is it true that other GCC nationals (bahraini, emirati, etc.) dont need exit permit?

most of the employer keep the passports and yes you have to take exit permit every time you exit qatar, by road or by air..
