Exit Visa
We have an offer to come and work in Qatar. It is for a large government agency. We requested a multiple exit visa for my husband and they said no saying its against HR policy. They say it is very easy "easier" to apply for exit visa with them each time we want to go on holiday. Has anyone had any experience with this? It seems strange to us, it feels very controlling. Has anyone had experience with employers denying this? Or perhaps in government it really is easy "just tick a box" just a formality with no hassle.
yes,
it's not 600, it's QAR 500 for the multiple exit permit.
Qataris are just control freaks...the cost of the multi exit visa is usually born by the employee if granted. I got mine so I didn't have to apply for these stupid exit visas everytime you wanted to travel. Of course I'm not going to travel 60 times but the 600QR is worth it so you have the freedom to travel when you want to.
unbelievable, it becomes NOT very easy, but rather impossible, if the authorized person who is signing the application is currently out of Qatar. In this case NO exits for anyone who has no multiple exit permits..
exit permit is very easy to claim, ur husband's employer is right.and for your kind info, exit permit is valid for 1 week.
every leave or business trip, he will be grandted "exit permit", and when he is still outside Qatar, exit permit can not be claimed from the immigration as the system shows that the person has already exited.
System says that he is out of country and cannot process exit.
He needs to enter the immigration first so they can update his profile and even just after an hour he can go out directly from the immigration again as long as the visa was already available.
Therefore, multiple exit visa is not practiced.
I am not much surprised by his comment as i had heard it before in UAE & see what they r doing now.We are truly greatful to the rulers of this land for allowing us to work here but but this kind of attitude reflects that u r still living in 17thcentury on a camel back.As for UAE its much better place now since the rulers there always care about the expats & local equally.Free movement of workers( b it expat or national) helps an organisation to get access to the best talents in the market rather than frightening them with this 2 yr ban, exit permits etc & what r u going 2 acheive with that??. a bunch of depressed frustruated idiotic slaves who do absolutely no good to your company or organisation or the country.
Hi 22 wake up & see the world
big_sumo, get ready. exit permit isn't the only restriction in Qatar. You Husband will have to ask permission to bring YOU in qatar; will have to ask permission to open a bank account; will have to ask permission to buy a car; to ask permission to buy "hot" drinks, to go to the bars, etc.,etc.,etc. Till very recently the companies had rights to hold your passport for the entire time! Keep in mind, your hub cannot change his job without permission of his current sponsor either.. just get ready..
as for saving, it's not an excuse. They could give an option to pay for the multiple exit permit by yourself if you want to get one. No. they simply don't grant it to everyone. Note, there is no such policy in western companies. For example, at every company in QSTP multiple exit permit is issued automatically along with your Residence permit.
Sweeps, it is QAR500 not 600.
Hi1122 has the commonly found 'you are my slave, I own you' mentality. If many people had the freedom to up and leave, you would be surprised at how many would leave due to physical and psychological abuse, no salaries, overworked.... It is NOT about saving QAR 600 - we are talking about a large government agency here. It's about controlling your husband and knowing his 'travelplans'.
hello hi1122 I was just curious about your comments. Here in Australia, Australians and migrants can leave as they please without having to ask permission from anyone. It doesn't seem to cause any problems. Why do you think this is different for Qatar? Do you think everyone would leave if they could? Just curious, don't want to move to acountry where everyone is trying tog et out! :-)
Thank you for your comments I think it puts it into perspective, it should be very easy to do and save company money too.
Just have to make that decision now! I read qatar living every day trying to learn as much as I can about Qatar and the people living there. Thanks again.
I am looking this another way. The cost to the company to get a multiple entry for one year is costlier than the single exit pemit. All companies are in the verge of cut cost measures. The one year mutliple entry is QAR 600 and the online single exit permit is just QAR10., practically no one will exit 60 times in a year. So its saving to the company on cost and also no problem for the employee aswell its only a few minutes to get exit permit online and its available 24hrs....so its not a controlling but cost saving to all...
It means that each time your husband ( I assume he's the visa holder) wants to leave the country - he needs to get his company permission. They can register his exit visa on-line in literally a few minutes. To go on leave, he's probably had to fill in & approved his leave anyway?
As a "trailing wife" there's no restrictions on you once you are set up on his sponsorship ( couple of weeks ) .
While it seems awkward to have have your company permission, the fact is that you need your company permission for most things anyway.
You'll get used to it & it's normal for this part of the world
