How to add spouse name in Indian Passport

My collegue recently married and he would like to bring his family to Doha in December. For processing the visa we know his & wife's passport need to endorse in Indian Embassy or Passport office adding the spouse name. For doing so when he approached passport office they informed from now onwards there shall be no addition or alteration in the existing passport (means cannot add wife's or husbands name in to passports), instead a new one will be issued. my friend is having three passports already and the latest one is carrying Qatar, Schengen and UK visas he doesn't like to apply for a new passport. He is travelling back to india next week so i would like to help him by taking your expert advise.

i never said its impossible .. it is possible but they dont do it on exisisting passport .. they add the name and give u new passport where you dont have any current visas stamped and ur ex-journey details ..
However, your friend could always add his wifes name to his new passport and get all visas stamped again ..
no.surely insha allah, u can add your wife or husband name in the passport in india.
i did it.
"adding name" option no more possible with indian passport ..i was in the similar situvation and i was running here and there to do this ..even my wife went to passposrt office in india to add on her passport but they refused. but luckily i have applied visa without adding any name in any passport and it got approved :) ...but you have to have original marriage certificate with you to apply here ..
so please check with the people who are close to immigration dept here and i am sure they will be able to help you or atleast give you some update on the same ..

Yes, there are some new rules regarding this. If your friend is here in Qatar now, just make a try by approaching Indian Embassy to endorse wife's name in his passport, and let his wife endorse his name in her passport from India.

ask your friend to go to india, there he can add the name of the wife or husband within a 30 minutes by paying very less amount like rs:100 or 200 i think.
then the same passport with wife or husband name endosed will reach him with in 3 days time or he can collect it directly.
i did for my wife like that.
