how long does it take to issue residence permit for family?

I have brought my wife and kid here on visit visa in july.Their visa was expiring on Aug 3rd and hence before that i applied for residence permit with necessary documents.But its been almost a month and still it shows 'UNDER PROCESS'.excluding the eid holidays it is precisely 20 days since i applied.does it take so long?i have not extended their visa as well.will it be a problem later?can somebody please help me?each time i go to immigration office,they say its under process and keep checking online.

ours took six month......so I guess there is no actual time frame for this. this is why people have to do visa-runs....
