LEAVING QATAR - BANK ACCOUNT & CREDIT CARD

I am about to give a months notice and will be leaving Qatar.

I have no debt on my credit card but someone has said that as soon as i resign my account will be frozen to cover the credit limit of the credit card - is this the case?

Also presuming i dont leave enough cash in my account to cover the credit limit during the freeze period (assuming this is longer than 1 month), will I be able to exit the country?

How will I be able to access this cash once I leave?

Any help appreciated.

You cancel your your cards, it needs 45 days actually in advance. But you can carry on with your a/c till the last day , one / two / three days before you go home. Then remove every Rial and close the account. Imp. Close your cards just today.

hi to all,

year 2015 I did my annual leaved and go back to my country, but unfortunately my company did not allow me to go back due to the project completion. On that time I have unpaid credit card in commercial bank approximately 4K, now planning to apply Permanent Visa in Canada but one of the requirements are police clearance from Qatar, is there any chances that I have record in police? for unpaid credit card and no final exit?

Hoping for your answer.

i have a credit card linked with my qib current account. The credit limit is 15000 QR and they have blocked QR15000 from my salary account. Now my question is how will I be able to withdraw the 15000 blocked by the bank ? Will I have to wait for 45 days from the date of cancellation of my credit card? I need a Bank clearance certificate to cancel my RP. I was planning to leave Qatar before the end of this month but this 45 day law (or rule or whatever you call it) is going to ruin my plans. Isn't there any other way to get a clearance letter as well as close your bank account without having to wait for 45 days.

so my work does not need a clearance from the Bank - they are just going to cancel my visa and hey ho, I will have 7 days to leave.

so they question is now, do I need a bank clearance at all. On the basis that I do not owe anything...surely there would be no reason for stopping my exiting the country even before the 45 days is up?

No. They say that is not how it works - they dont freeze your account (as mentioned before) or take a deposit. You just have to wait until after the 45 days

cant you leave the country and transfer your money online to your other bank account?

Well just been to CBQ to close the account. They will not give me a clearance certificate for 45 days regardless as to whether I leave cash in my current account or not! They will accept a Guarantor but I dont have one.

At least they wont freeze my account and I'll be able to access this months salary. So it seems like I will have 2 weeks on the beach before I can leave (on Christmas Day, which is not ideal).

People invent their own rules here it seems.

it depends on the bank. 45 days is not a rule for all banks; i was with HSBC, i cancelled my credit card over the phone and the only requirement was to pay the pending amount. after couple of days i got a call from the bank to confirm that i want to cancel the card which i did. two days later it disappeared from my online banking and it was cancelled. whole process took about 5 working days.

thanks, that really useful. This would mean that I'd only be leaving my one month salary (which would be frozen for a few weeks after I leave) but I'd still be able to go away with my severance.

Thanks for the advice.

So today I have transfered most of my account balance abroad. My credit card is in credit so I will withdraw this.

Once the cash has reached my home bank account then I will close the credit card account.

I will then get paid my monthly salary (which is my credit card limit) on the 30th which I am presuming they will freeze in the account. On top of that I will get my final pay on the 9th.

Do you think the bank will give me a clearance certificate if I have this money frozen as a guarantee? I presume I can have this money transferred to me later.

Is it usual for 45 days that they wait from cancellation. I was hoping for 30 days so I can leave the country as quickly as possible after my 30 days notice. ps I am with CBQ

Too many questions.

pps. In their t&c they say "You may terminate the Card facility upon thirty (30) days written notice to us.

Termination by you shall only be effective from expiry of the thirty day notice period and shall

be conditional on return of the Card to us and full and final settlement of your liabilities

under the Card". SO I AM HOPEFUL!

They will give you clearance right away, but the 45 days is the time they require to freeze funds equal to your credit card limit (45 days from the day the collect the credit card from you). See if scenario is possible to add a beneficiary for online transfer and hopefully once the funds are unfrozen you can do the transfer online.

No TheDarkNightRises, I have gone through this and I know what I am talking about. Your company want to make sure that the bank is clear with you, otherwise the company will be liable. So the way it works the bank will close the acct and give you the leftover money and cancel the debt card.

The story is entirely different if you have a credit card. The theory is that there are "pending" transactions and the bank would not know until 45 days. It is false theory as it follows the old paper system of credit card charges and so on, but the banks still insist on 45 days.

The message is this, anyone who want to quit their job and leave Qatar, cancel your credit cards as soon as you decide to quit. Closing your bank acct without a credit card is a quick process.

Translator Your debit card will work unless you are closing the account. In that case, there won't be anything to withdraw anyway.

If you have no dues pending, go to the Bank and get all your cards(debit/credit) cancelled, bank accounts closed and ask for the Bank to give you a no dues/clearance certificate.

BTW clearing a credit card takes more than 45 days or the statement / billing cycle ... beware of that as well..

Better to clear your credit card before you leave the country, this is the right thing to do. God Bless you Brother.

Always close your credit / loan accounts and request bank for Clearance Certificate. They will of course charge for it but it is always worth. No one in future can claim any thing based on past cards / loan and keep you away from legal hassle.

Go to the bank, close your credit card account and ask for a clearance that you shall be providing your company, that's all you have to do!

The cards will be all canceled, that won't work.

To access the cash, go to any ATM in your home country which accepts Mastercard/Visa (Depends on your card type) and withdraw the sum like a normal transaction. Some transaction fee will be deducted.

When I left the first time, there were 8 Riyals in my account and my credit limit was definitely more than that. My credit card was cancelled a few days after leaving Qatar. That is my experience.

Your work will ask you for a list of clearances, including one from the bank. That's the holdup, you will have to leave some money, and you have to workout a transfer after the freez period, no joy at all. Alternative, you can have a guarantor and avoid all of that, talk to the bank for such an option.
