Medical Commision Experience_Please share

Hello everyone!

I am a freelance researcher and is currently writing a feature on the Medical procedure for immigration purposes in Qatar.

It will great if you could help me in putting the pieces in place. The feature revolves around the present concept of medical tests followed in the country. For instance, lung X-ray is given high priority and a person with even a tiny speckle of scar is certified unfit. Often, people with good job offers are left with no option than to leave the country due to a scar in the lung.

When a person is found to have a scar in his lung he is referred for skin-test. If skin-test turns out to be positive, he is sent to Rumailah for blood/sputum tests. And the sad part is even if the blood and sputum tests indicate that the person is not a carrier of active TB he is still declared unfit.

1) Has anyone of your relatives/friends/colleagues gone through this situation?
2) Do you think it is wise to determine the fitness of a person only through lung X-ray?

Please share your opinions. I have seen many people leaving the country disappointed because of this issue. Let's try and see, if we can be of help to the future visitors.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, I would like to share my experience with Qatar Medical Commision when i got oppurtunity in Doha. After arrival into Qatar , my company got appointment for medical examiniation for my colleaque and mine . After completing the Examination , next day , my colleaque got postive results ( ie FIT ) and mine was under process for few days . My PRO got message that i am advised to consult Rumailah Hospital communicable disese section after 15 days from medical examination; Reason was my X ray was not clear . I went to R.H and got appointment for skin test (Skin tests should be read 48-72 hours after the injection. The basis of the reading of the skin test is the presence or absence and the amount of induration (localized swelling). A negative test does not always mean that a person is free of tuberculosis.)and after 10 days they called me for A sputum culture is a test to detect and identify bacteria or fungi that infect the lungs or breathing passages. Sputum is a thick fluid produced in the lungs and in the adjacent airways. Normally, fresh morning sample is preferred for the bacteriological examination of sputum. After 15 days , with all the resports , I was advised to consult with doctor and explained about the issue . Few years prior to come Doha , I was infected by Tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) is one of the most common forms of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. TPE usually presents as an acute illness with fever, cough and pleuritic chest pain. The pleural fluid is an exudate that usually has predominantly lymphocytes. After treatment , I was cured but the infection layer was visible in my chest Xray . The Doctor in R.H refererd me to visist Hamad Medcial to check furter about the layer . After checking with H.M , they advised that there is no active TB . After 10 days , Have received message from PRO that I am OK to Work in Qatar . For few months , I was completely depressed all these formalities and many comments from colleaques . In all these exacmination, I was treated well by doctors . Medcial Unfit is issued only if the candiate give chances to spred the disease or else it is nothing to worry .

My take also: rules can be fluid, double standards exist, and unfair and incorrect decisions are made.

EVERYWHERE.

Sorry, but we all know life is not fair, and common sense is not that common.

I still give Qatar a good grade for quality of medical practice.

Calm down Luna no worries, here in Qatar all are “Sulaimani” Rules and regulation, these rules often changes after each Sulaimani they have it on break time.

I think rlmandan is collecting info on Qatar medical commission. Btw nance I have my personal experience on medical commission going wrong with the diaganosis. Hope they are still following 19th century medical diaganosis process.

A person who have been working in Qatar for 2 years and exits to UAE for job and stay there for 2 years, then when he returned Qatar for a new job he have been deported due to unfit for visa medical n looks funny. (reason for rejection = inactive TB)

Qatar is afraid of 1.5m new expats or what?

Also, why refuse a person to remain in the country because of inactive TB?

Hi Nancye,

When other GCC countries allow reports from home country for medical procedure, Qatar remains strict in doing the tests after arrival. I too appreciate that.

One visitor told me a weird experience.

She was in Qatar in 2011, then moved to UAE in the beginning of 2012 as her husband's project was transferred there. In 2013 her husband moved back to Qatar, and she underwent medical test and was surprised to find that she was declared unfit..

How can this happen? She was accepted by Qatar in 2011 and was accepted by UAE in 2012!

My another concern is people who are here on business visa are excluded from this medical procedures and they remain in the country for 3 months, exit and come back and again stay for 3 months.. How about the communicable spreading through these positive (if any) carriers?

Actually, my experience is the opposite. I personally know of two recent cases wherein the individual was cleared for work by clinics in their home countries, and when tested in Qatar, were found to have active TB. This means a positive chest x-ray, positive skin test, followed by positive sputum cultures. Qatar was willing to let them remain in country, and be treated, with continuing medical surveillance. It was the employees' company that arranged for each person's visa to be cancelled, and the individual to be deported.

I do think that if you are reading this, and you are not a medical professional, you should acquaint yourself futher with the TB disease process. Then you will better understand the significance of a 'tiny speck of scar tissue'.

I have many years of international healthcare experience. I find the health care in Qatar, as it is right now, to be sound. The physical facilities are undergoing improvement, but the medical judgement is already very good.

Yes, it is disappointing when something like this happens, but as adults, let's realize that:

1. Clinical tests performed in your home country can be wrong. This is why Qatar re-tests to begin with.

2. People buy, and submit, fake test results all the time.

3. The real point here people, is that if you are found to be positive for something, this is you chance, and maybe your ONLY chance, to do something about it. GO home if necessary, but get treated, and see that your family gets treated if need be. THEN worry about the job. Be thankful you were diagnosed definitively. For your family's sake, and for your own life.
