I am moving to Qatar next month in Sr Engr position. My father is retired indian govt employee, 68 yrs old.

I am informed that he can not get the resident permit in Qatar, and even family visit visa shall be difficult....IS IT TRUE???? Hotel visa is v expensive and not practical...where should i leave him all alone at this age????

Can anyone suggest me any option

well , in fact you highlighted a very important subject . again i need to under stand how we can get our parents for a longer period than 1 month?

i did'nt get you when u said " Once your father arrives here, He will given an entry of 1 month only. Then he will have to undergo medical at the medical commission. Then you can get his visa extended by 5 months. So total six months on each visit."

are visitors allowed to pass that period ( 5 months) , just because being presented to medical commission ? ( I guess not - unless iam mistaken) and moreover , how they can be presented to medical commission,as I know that their are certian serial no. for visas that upon it ppl can go for medical checkup.

thanks to clarify more

Does this apply to North American (Canadian) as well. I mean if I want my mother in law to visit us and stay with us for 3-4 months, can she get a visa in the airport with her Canadian Passport or I have to apply for a visitor visa as well

Thanks

Anybody over 65, cannot get an automatic visit visa. This applies to absolutely everybody.

Once you get your RP, the procedure is to go to the local immigration office, get "upstairs", and ask to talk to the "director" who is an officer. If he is not there, then you will have to go back several times, until you can catch him at his desk. Nobody will know his working hours.

It is highly advisable not to go there alone. Bring along a Qatari national who can speak Arabic. The officer will want to know if you are a responsible person who would take care of your aging parent's health problems. If he likes your demeanor, then you will get a visit visa for one month (but good only for only 4 weeks or 28 days, any extra day will cost 200QR extra). I am nor sure if anybody over 65 can get an RP. May be somebody else on this site, who has gone thru the process can clarify that. Best of luck !

When you apply for your Father's visit visa, The form shall include passport copy with RP stamp of you and your wife. Without your Wife's RP stamp attached to the application form, the visit visa of your father will not be approved.

Once your father arrives here, He will given an entry of 1 month only. Then he will have to undergo medical at the medical commission. Then you can get his visa extended by 5 months. So total six months on each visit.

Thanks tg

Please clarify meas what you mean by family resident visa? I understand that first I shall have to move in through sponsorship of my company, then i get RP. After I get RP, I sponsor my family and they (wife & children) get RP.

Should I apply for family visit visa for my father after my family gets RP...or I can apply for him along with my family.

You can bring your father on Visit Visa after your Family Residence Visa has been stamped...After that your father can be on visit for 6 months ...and he can come back for 6 months after 3 months..So its just 3 months in a year that you will have to leave him in India..

Ritu - it is called PLANNING my friend. If you had done all your homework and planning BEFORE you made the decision to relocate to QATAR you would never have been in the situation that you now find yourself in!

The reason why you will not get a visa for your father is precisely for the reason that you mentioned yourself - "where should I leave him all alone at this age????" When a country / company offers free medical they have a right not to be burdened with elderly people that could tax their medical system.

If you are going to be joining QP in Sr Engineering position then perhaps you will be in a finacial position to support him back in India in a decent home for teh elderly. Think about that as an alternative perhaps.

Regards and Good Luck.
