Photographs?
Hi all, I finally received my official letter of appointment from Qatar Airways. But I'm quite curious as to why the photographs I need to submit to the company for administrative purposes must be in a background other than white or gray. I though most countries require a white background for such visa formalities etc.? Just trying to understand the rationale behind it ...
Hey guys, thanks so much for all the useful information! I had my photographs taken again 2 days back but they didn't understand what the Qatari standard is ... so I took a chance and just told them to give me a dark blue background. In the worst scenario, I guess I'll just have to ask some friends to do some photoshop for me.
Thanks so much again, folks!
Don't worry about the sizes and backgrounds too much. When you go the photo shop just ask for Qatari standard passport photos, the shop will know exactly what to do. The passport standard seems to be what is required for the various ministries.
they will show you a chart describing the rules
YOU DONT KNOW ME, DONT EVEN TRY !!!

colored background-photo is required so that they will distinguish the photo from the paper it is attached. the ID here is white, so is the drivers license. your company ID in Qatar Airways is also white. its not so pleasant to see your face being dominated by your hair and the color of clothes you are wearing.
Oh gosh i just send my photos wif whiteback ground...i think they gonna ask me to retake...mati lah like dis...wah piang eh....

This is all interesting stuff to learn and know! 'Coz here in Singapore - we MUST have pictures taken against a white background. I was just wondering to myself - ok if they don't want a white or gray background, does that mean I can have a black, red, pick, electric blue or even a floral background? Now I gotta have my pictures taken again ...
white background and grey a big no here in photos here.. :) just imagine those wearing in thobes (white)and in abbaya (black)..they will blend in the background and would be hard to distinguish them..so that's the more logical i can think of there..

i think it's for some ministry because my pictures had to be the same.
you should see the requirements when getting a canadian passport. has to be white background. you can not smile. the size of your head has to fill so much of the pickture, and the distance from your chin to the bottom of the picture has to be within a range.

its the standard. when i was new here in the middle east, i am surprised to know that they wanted a BLUE background. And the locals take pictures with their hijap or sutana on, thus only showing the face.
also they take pictures without your body facing the camera. you are to lean a little bit on the side and then tilt your face towards the camera. just like graduation photos.
get used to weird stuff.. its normal here ;)
