Police Clearance Letter?
By polymerchemist •
Hi Everyone,
I have been offered a fantastic package from a large petrochemical company. One of the main guys on this project keeps bringing up the subject of a police clearance letter. For what is this required? It is not required for an entry visa as far as I can tell. The stuff that they want for the residence visa seems ordinary (passport copy, medical stuff, professional qualifications). Am I missing something? Has anyone on here very recently had to get one of these? If so, what for? Where does a US citizen get one?
Thanks in advance...

you don't really have to queing for this process in the philippines. DHL do the job for a certain fee. you just have to submit your police clearance to any DHL branch and they will have it authenticated (the one with red ribbon)with DFA. then after less than ten days, they will deliver it back at your door. then just go to any DHL branch again to have it submitted to qatar embassy. just pay the premium of service and no sweat! :)
you have to obtain the Police Clearance Certificate in your country. I think for every country the procedure and cost is different. Check with your home city.
and Police Clearance Certificate is not something new. It's required in case of transferring sponsorship.

Actually they had got the visa to get me in the country ,but I think they just want to be cofindent about my health.I have conveyed them ,what Embssy has told me ,and hopefully they will be satisfied.
It stated that I was not involved in any criminal matters in Carson City or the State of Nevada in the last 5 years or something to that effect. It is not a big deal. We do not usually deal with such letters in matters undertaken in the States, but big game hunters, etc. get these letters when they go to Africa or South America to prove they are not unsavory to bureaucrats in whose countries they are hunting.
I'm leaving for Qatar on the 3rd and this is what I've learned.
I had to get a police record clearance from my local PD. I went to Sacramento City Police Department, paid ten bucks and filled out a short form. They gave it back and accroding to my employer, it needed more. The PD changed the wording and it now includes:
Mr. _____________ , DOB 01/01/73, of 123 Mainstreet, Sacramento, CA, Passport Number XXXXXX and CDL # XXXX has no record of criminal history in this city.
I thought it would be more, like a DOJ fingerprint check that I've had for my work in school districts, but my employer says the above is okay. Once I get to Doha, I'll have to print out a letter that says something like, "The attached document is true to the best of my knowledge." Then the US embassy signs (attests) it, then the Qatar govt.
Keep in mind that this has been changed recently and my HR department seems confused as well.
good luck
Hi RANDR,
Thanks that would be the easiest and quickest way to go. Could you tell me, what specifically did the letter state?

I don't mean to butt in since you're talking to elaine, but since elaine and I are from the same country, maybe I can answer your question.
I'm not sure if the process in your country is the same as ours, but my medical certificate did not require an attestation from the Qatar Embassy. After I went through the usual medical exam ( which includes psychological tests, AIDS/HIV tests and other blood tests, and physical, dental and eye exams), the results were then sent to my agency, who in turn sent it to my employer in Qatar. My employer then applied for my visa, providing the results as documents to prove my good health.
As far as I know, only the Police Clearance needs to be stamped by the Qatar Embassy.
It could be a different case on your part, or it is also possible that such a process varies from company to company. Perhaps mine does not require it but yours do. You may want to double check with them. You could also try to let them know what the Embassy in your country said about your request.
nope, i paid my agency to do the queing for me. they also did the ones for Malacañang and DFA.
Ya ar right elaine regarding police clearance certificate and its attestation by ministary and Qatar Embassy. But do you know something about medical certificate.Do recent rules requires it to be attested by Embassy also or it should only be from an approved institution in that country and thats it.
In my case my employer in Qatar was insisting on the attestation and the Embassy was not entertaining my request as they felt it does,nt need our attestation neither we do it.
I got one for my pre-job paperwork from the Sheriffs Department in my hometown, Carson City, Nevada. It was free of cost.

RANDR
so angel face, did you experienced queing in dasma gate with arrogant security guard to enter the qatar embassy?
It's a new rule that they have, I guess to make sure that those who come into their country don't have crimnal tendencies or whatever. it's the same for everyone. I'm Filipino and I got mine from our local police station, it's just a certificate that there are no lawsuits filed against you, that you have not been arrested for any criminal offense, or even a felony, in short, a clean record. I had to have it authenticated by the Malacanang Palace (equivalent to your White House), the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Qatar Embassy in the Philippines. Maybe you can call your local police station and ask if they issue such a clearance. good luck!
well, i think it depends on how grave is your offense. i think qatar gov just want to be sure that every people who will go to their country has a good reputation, just like p.e., to ensure foreigner has a clean bill of health. especially that asian games will be held in their country,.. for security reason- to deter individual who has bad motives.
Does that mean if you had a record when you were 18 and now 30 you wont be allowed into qatar, or for work permit??
per my agency who facilitate my employment with qp, police clearance is a new requirement by qatar gov before processing any visa. it should be authenticated "red ribbon" by your appropriate gov department and also authenticated by qatar embassy in your country. it took me three weeks before i accomplished that police clearance. the hardest part was in qatar embassy for they entertain about 60 applicants per day on a first come first serve basis. I even experienced queing by midnight in order to be accomodated on the list.
..and now still waiting for my work permit.
My son just had to have one done for collage and he had his done at the local police station. That was in Canada, not sure how it is in the U.S
Qatar has started requiring what is generally known as a certificate of good conduct. It basically means you shouldn't have a criminal record.
I assume you get it from your town hall or whichever department handles your civic affairs in your locale.
