Resident visa for family

Hi. Anyone applied for family resident visa with a single name in passport. I was told by my company immigration section that moi will reject visa applications without family name or surname. It looks so wierd for me. In country like Indonesia many people have just a single name. Why does a name matter? Anyone has experienced such problem here for applying visa?
