I am a Pakistani national presently residing in saudi arbia and will be moving qatar soon. I have a valid saudi driving license and when I will leave from here usually as per compnay procedure I have to surrender the license to company or take it subject to thier approval.

I just wanted to know if same can be changed in Qatar or one need to go all formalities for Qatri license?

As I understand it, as soon as your RP in Saudi finishes, the license no longer becomes valid.  If you are a tourist here from US, UK, Saudi or whatever your license is valid, when you become a resident, you must get a local license.

So many darn forums in QL, ABOUT "DRIVING LICENSES" and no one bothers checking for more information by doing a small search.I was pondering, If Qatar living was going to compete with the local driving schools and BY issuing a safe pass to give the local traffic department saying: I READ ALL THE FORUMS OF QATAR LIVING,"I WILL BE A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER FROM THIS MOMENT ON". People look at the US and the electoral process here and are reminded that this is a major transparent democracy, a vibrant and diverse country.Kurt VolkerUS state department

Dear you must bring your Saudi license .if it is valid.bcoz by showing

it to authorities they will issue u a qatari license .otherwise you

have to go through whole process which will take time as well as money.

U can use the license before u have ur resident permit--but once u have the RP u need to have a qatar driving liscense in order to drive a car here--anyway u will just transfer the id from Saudi to qatar--saudi is valid here in qatar--of course they are all arabs....

Just check the new traffic laws and newcomers should be aware of this. British Drivin lincenses are invalid because they are for drinving on the left hand side of the road - as you know here is right hand side.

I do believe there is a test for some nations to get the Qatari license and better to check with Madinat Al Khalifa where theu are doing all this.

To be quite honest, it is not a question of not knowing - every expat is responsible to check out what to not to do in a foreign country and - by the way international driving licences are only valid until they can transfer their own license

The rule is like that you have to get a Qatari license finally otherwise you will have to pay a fine.
