hi, i am an indian passport holder. i am in qatar since April '08. since my old passport went short of pages i applied for a new one in indian embassy and got the same on last wednesday (09/09/09). however i was not aware that my resident visa in my old passport need to be transferred to new passport before i can fly anywhere out of qatar. i was planning to go india this tuesday (15/09/09)and return on 26/09/09. after coming back i have a business visit in france and u.k.

when i checked with my PRO, he told me i cannot fly anywhere until i get my resident visa transferred to my new passport. if this is true i am in deep trouble and i cannot go home or europe i planned. please anybody advise me on this as i doubt whether if i attach my old passport (in which my present resident permit is stamped) with new passport i can travel or not.

expecting your valuable advise... even i know i am too late to come and ask this question..

Hi Friend,

It is better to transfer your valid visa to the newly issued passport, your old passport might be cancelled from the System. This involves very simple procedures. I have done it last year through my company HR department. Hope your PRO can help you. Best wishes...

yes, you can go alone. you will pay QR50 for the transfer to new passport. Good Luck.

if i want to transfer my visa page to my new passport, can i go alone to immigration in madinat khalifa? i lost my confidence in my PRO, hence i prefer to go alone to avoid any complications. if i can go alone do i need to carry any additional documents? please advise me.

1- I have traveled many times with residency on old passport which is attached to new passport, NO PROBLEMS> make sure the immigration office stamps the CORRECT passport.

2- Immigration in Ramadan is quite busy, however, if you go there early enough (be there like 6.30am) you can get your residency transferred to your new passport on the same day. Make sure you draw the attention of the officer to the fact that you need the passport ASAP. Bring proof of travel with you (ticket) to show that you really need that done.

3- there are other immigration centers including one in Wakrah that can perform this operation.

4- to have absolute peace of mind, you can stop by the airport and ask in the immigration center next to the mosque/school about the latest regulations.

Hope this is of help.

as long as you bring along your old passport with your resident visa attached, you won't be having any problem.
