What ID do you need to carry with you in Qatar, if any?

I'm from the UK and so I'm not used to having to carry ID around with me.

I know that in France and in some other European countries, it is a legal requirement to carry an ID card but thankfully in the UK we don't yet have an ID card.

I've lived and worked in another country that required a work visa, but obviously that goes in my passport, and I don't carry my passport around with me, and I can't recall carrying my resident's permit around with me either.

Is it a legal requirement for a foreigner to carry ID with them?

If so, what form of ID is required? Do we have to carry our passports? I'd rather not as it would be a real pain to lose/have it stolen and have to replace it.

You should carry your Qatari ID with you, if not then either original or just a copy of your passport will do. But you should carry one of them in Qatar.

I have heard that police can make you some problems if you won't have it with you.

If you work in Qatar, after you got your RP the authority will issue an ID for you. You carry that around and sometimes it would be asked when necessary.
